Chaotic Order

The ramblings of a crazy college student.

Windows? What’s that? Is it anything like Ubuntu?

So the harddrive in my laptop died, or rather, is in the process of dying. Windows stopped booting up because someone at microsoft had the BRILLIANT idea of setting the system to AUTOMATICALLY REBOOT during a stop error. I got the Stop Error during reboot. You can guess how that went. I couldn’t even boot into safe mode.

So I said “fuck it” and install ubuntu. Now the problem with that is the fact that there were errors on the drive and so FSCK was forced to run at bootup. Okay, that’s fine.

The next day, it was still running. After waiting half the day I took drastic measures. I was using my old desktop computer as a back up drive mostly. It would freeze at the xp login screen but we could still access the drive through the network. Well I wiped it clean and installed ubuntu on that. I didn’t have anything of value on there and Ubuntu runs like a dream. The amusing thing is that both computers are compaqs, but the desktop is now 7 years old. The laptop is two.

Goes to show you that they don’t build them like they used to.
